Character

For my assessment this week I have to create a makeup look for a fairy-tale character in a new film. The classic fairy tale has been adapted and recreated in a new blockbuster film.

The fairy tale that I chose was The Little Mermaid. But the adaptation is realistic and deals with more adult themes, such as change, depression, self worth, and traditional beauty. I have chosen the the main character 'Ariel' to recreate. And have decided to focus on that fact that she is a sea-creature who lives and breathes under water, highlighting the realistic features of scales and gills. I have also decided to focus on the characters traits of being vain and obsessed with her looks, thus including defined cheeks, lips and the inclusion of shimmer.

Here is the originale Hans Christian Andersen fairytale:

Here is the tailer for the Disney cartoon of the little mermaid:

Here are a range of images to assist in the development of my look:

Body Painting

For this assessment I have to create a design and paint the whole body with it! The whole body has to be painted and it has to be an original idea.

I have decided to use my own personal artwork. experiment what my normally same artworks would look on large scale. What I love about makeup is the ability to create illusions using such a simple medium as paint. Im my art work (as you can see below) I like to create individuals with 'unusual bodies, thus painting one of my 'creatures' on a human body will be a challenge and a chance to create a large scale illusion.

My personal work that I will be drawing from:

I have experimented with a range of colours as a base, but I have decided to use a multicoloured, rainbow-like foreground with a black outlining background. So that when against a black backdrop the colourful body is the only thing a viewer can see. Thus creating the illusion that the the body is the shape i have intentionally created.

Aging with latex!

The assignment I am completing soon is Aging using Latex. Basically for a really good and life-like makeup, you wouldn't just use cremes to create the look as you can't really paint on realistic wrinkles.
Therefore by applying the makeup using latex will create those fine wrinkles we attain when we age.

As per usual I am required to create a "mood board" of real life pictures as something to work off. Here are a number of images that inspire and educate me.
